Stride Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 5, 2026 Last updated: September 5, 2026
The short version
- Your health data is yours. We use it to run Stride for you.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your health data for advertising.
- Nobody sees your data unless you share it. Crew members, trainers, and nutrition professionals only see what you specifically give them access to.
- Photos and audio you capture for logging are processed to identify what is in them. You control whether we keep the original file.
- Camera-based measurement and health record connection are off by default and require separate consent.
- You can export your data, delete individual entries, or delete your entire account at any time.
- Stride is a consumer wellness product. It is generally not covered by HIPAA. Section 2 explains what that means.
1. Who we are and what this covers
This Privacy Policy explains how Life Tech Inc ("Stride", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares and protects information when you use stride.life, the Stride mobile applications, and related services (the "Service").
It does not cover third party services you connect to Stride, or the separate practices of any Life clinical entity. Those are governed by their own notices.
2. HIPAA and how Stride relates to Life clinical services
This section matters and is easy to get wrong, so we are stating it plainly.
Stride is a consumer product, not a healthcare provider. When you use Stride on your own, the information you put into it is generally not protected health information under HIPAA, and we are not acting as a HIPAA covered entity. Instead, our handling of your health information is governed by this policy, by the Federal Trade Commission Act and the FTC Health Breach Notification Rule, and by state consumer health privacy laws.
This is different from the protections that apply to records held by a doctor's office, a hospital, or a health plan. We hold ourselves to the commitments in this policy regardless, and we do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Two situations work differently.
- Life clinical services. Life Medical and other Life clinical entities are separate from Stride, have their own patients and records, and are covered by HIPAA. Using Stride does not make you their patient. If you are separately their patient, those records are governed by their Notice of Privacy Practices, not by this policy.
- Moving data between the two. Information does not move between Stride and any Life clinical entity unless you specifically authorize it. If you choose to authorize it, we will present that authorization separately and explain what will be shared, with whom, and for what purpose. You can revoke it going forward at any time.
Where a service you book through Stride is delivered by a clinician or professional acting as a covered entity, or where we act as a business associate of a covered entity, HIPAA applies to that information and, in the event of a conflict, HIPAA controls over this policy for that information.
3. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account. Name, email, password, phone number, profile photo, time zone.
- Health profile. Age, sex, height, weight, goals, dietary restrictions, allergies, conditions you tell us about, and answers to questions the Service asks you.
- Medications. Medications you record, dosages, schedules, and doses you log as taken or missed.
- Logged activity. Meals and their contents, workouts, steps, weight, and any notes you add.
- Images and audio. Photos of meals, packaging, barcodes, equipment, medications, and progress photos. Voice notes you record to log something.
- Coach conversations. What you type or say to the coach and what it replies.
- Shared content. Posts, goals and streaks you share with a crew.
- Support. Messages you send us and what you tell us in them.
Information we collect automatically
- Device and app information, including device type, operating system, app version, language, and identifiers.
- Usage information, including features you open, actions you take, and times of use.
- Log and diagnostic information, including IP address, crash reports and performance data.
- Approximate location derived from IP address. We do not collect precise location unless you enable a feature that needs it and grant permission.
Information from sources you connect
- Wearables and health platforms. Steps, activity, heart rate, sleep and similar data from services you link.
- Health records. Where available and only if you initiate it, records from your healthcare providers or health plan, which may include diagnoses, medications, allergies, immunizations, lab results, visit summaries and care team information. This connection is off by default, requires your authorization, and can be disconnected at any time.
- Camera-based measurement. Where offered, features that estimate physiological signals from a short camera capture. See Section 9.
Payment information
Payments are processed by a third party payment processor. We receive confirmation, the last four digits of the card, and billing details. We do not store your full card number. If you subscribe through an app store, the store handles the payment and we do not receive your payment details.
4. How we use information
- To run the Service. Record what you log, recognize what is in your photos and audio, calculate totals and trends, deliver reminders, and show you your data.
- To generate guidance. Produce coach responses, "is this good for me" assessments, and other suggestions based on your profile, your logs and your history.
- To learn your routine. Improve recognition of foods, portions and medications you record repeatedly, so you correct entries less often over time.
- To deliver services you book. Give a nutrition professional you book with the information they need for your session, and store what they document.
- To share as you direct. Show a crew member or trainer exactly what you have granted them.
- To handle payments, subscriptions and credits.
- To support you and respond to your questions.
- To keep the Service safe, including preventing fraud, abuse and unauthorized access.
- To improve the Service, using usage analytics and de-identified or aggregated data.
- To communicate with you about your account, changes to the Service, and, if you opt in, marketing. You can unsubscribe from marketing at any time.
- To comply with law and enforce our Terms.
5. Automated processing and AI
Stride uses automated systems, including artificial intelligence, to recognize the contents of photos and audio, estimate nutrition and activity, identify patterns, and generate coach responses. These systems are imperfect and their outputs are estimates.
Some of this processing happens on your device. Some requires sending content to a service provider that processes it on our behalf under contract. Those providers are permitted to use your information only to provide the service to us.
We do not allow your personal health data to be used to train third party AI models. Our agreements with AI providers prohibit them from using your content to train or improve their general models. Where we use your information to improve our own recognition and guidance, we use de-identified or aggregated data, or your own data solely to improve your own experience.
No automated decision that produces a legal or similarly significant effect about you is made by the Service. Guidance from the coach is informational and is not a decision about your care, your coverage, or your eligibility for anything.
6. How we share information
- People you choose. Crew members and trainers see exactly what you grant them, and no more. You can change or revoke this at any time.
- Professionals you book. A nutrition professional you book a session with receives the profile and log information needed for that session.
- Service providers. Hosting, storage, payment processing, customer support, email and messaging, analytics, error monitoring, food and nutrition databases, drug information databases, and AI processing. They act on our instructions under contract and may not use your information for their own purposes.
- Connected services. Where you link an account, data flows as you authorized. Their use of it is governed by their policy.
- Life clinical entities. Only if you specifically authorize it. See Section 2.
- Legal and safety. When required by law, subpoena or court order, or when we believe in good faith it is necessary to prevent serious harm, investigate fraud, or protect our rights.
- Business transfer. In a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy, and any acquirer must continue to honor the commitments in Section 7 for information collected under this policy.
7. What we never do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- We do not use your health data to target ads to you, on or off the Service.
- We do not provide your health data to data brokers, advertising networks, insurers, or employers.
- We do not place advertising trackers or pixels on pages where you enter or view health information.
- We do not use your data to train third party AI models.
8. Consumer health data
*This section applies to residents of Washington, Nevada, and other states with consumer health data laws, and serves as our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy under the Washington My Health My Data Act.*
Most of what Stride collects is consumer health data as those laws define it: your logged meals and activity, weight, medications, symptoms, conditions, goals, health record data you connect, and any measurements derived from images or sensors.
We collect that data from you directly and from sources you connect, as described in Section 3. We use it and share it only as described in Sections 4, 5 and 6. We do not sell it, and we will not sell it. Any sale of consumer health data would require your separate written authorization, and we do not seek one.
If you are a Washington or Nevada resident, you have the right to:
- Confirm whether we collect, share or sell your consumer health data, and access it.
- Obtain a list of the third parties with whom we have shared it, including how to contact them.
- Withdraw consent to our collection and sharing of it.
- Have it deleted, including from our archives and backups, and to have us notify our processors and affiliates of the deletion request.
- Appeal a denial of any of these requests, and to contact the Washington Attorney General if the appeal is denied.
Make a request at hi@stride.life or through the in-app privacy controls. We will respond within 45 days and may extend once by another 45 days where permitted, with notice to you.
9. Biometric information
*This section applies to all users and includes commitments required in Illinois, Texas and Washington.*
Some features may involve biometric identifiers or biometric information, including facial scans used for camera-based measurement of physiological signals, and analysis of your voice where voice-based health features are offered.
These features are off by default. We will not collect, capture or use biometric identifiers without first telling you in writing what is being collected, the specific purpose, and how long it will be kept, and obtaining your written consent. You can decline and still use the rest of Stride.
- Purpose. Biometric data is used only to produce the wellness estimate you requested, and to improve the accuracy of that feature for you.
- No identification. We do not use facial data to identify you, to verify your identity, or to match you against any database.
- No sale. We do not sell, lease, trade or otherwise profit from your biometric data.
- Sharing. Biometric data is shared only with the processing provider that performs the measurement on our behalf, under contract, and only for that purpose.
- Retention. Underlying image, video or audio captured for measurement is deleted promptly after processing, and in no case later than 24 hours. Derived results, such as an estimated reading, are kept with the rest of your health data and deleted when you delete them or close your account. All biometric data is destroyed no later than three years after your last interaction with us, or when the purpose for collection is satisfied, whichever comes first.
10. Your controls
- Edit or delete entries. Any log can be corrected or deleted.
- Control sharing. Grant, limit or revoke crew and trainer access at any time, per person.
- Disconnect sources. Unlink any wearable, platform or health record connection at any time.
- Turn off optional features. Camera-based measurement, voice analysis and record connection can each be turned off.
- Manage photos. Choose whether original photos are saved to your account after processing, and delete stored photos individually.
- Notifications. Manage in the Service or in your device settings.
- Marketing. Unsubscribe using the link in any marketing email.
- Export. Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Delete your account. Delete everything, subject to Section 13.
11. Your rights by state
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights: to know what we collect and how we use it; to access a copy; to correct inaccuracies; to delete; to data portability; to opt out of sale, targeted advertising and certain profiling; to limit use of sensitive personal information; and to appeal a denial.
Health information is treated as sensitive personal information under these laws. We use it only to provide the Service you asked for, and we do not use or disclose it for advertising, profiling for advertising, or any purpose you would not reasonably expect.
California. In the last 12 months we collected the categories described in Section 3, for the purposes in Section 4, from the sources in Section 3, and disclosed them to the recipients in Section 6. We did not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA. You have rights to know, delete, correct, opt out, and limit use of sensitive personal information, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising them. You may use an authorized agent, with proof of authorization.
New Jersey, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Oregon, Texas, Montana, Delaware and other states with comprehensive privacy laws. You have the rights listed above, including the right to appeal. Processing of sensitive data, which includes health data, is done only with your consent.
Washington and Nevada. See Section 8.
12. How to exercise your rights
Use the privacy controls in the Service, or email hi@stride.life with your request and the email on your account. We may need to verify your identity before acting, and we will not ask for more information than necessary to do so.
We respond within 45 days and may extend once by 45 days where the law allows, with notice to you. There is no charge unless a request is excessive or repetitive.
Appeals. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision or writing to hi@stride.life with "Appeal" in the subject line. We will respond within 45 days with our decision and the reasons. If we deny the appeal, you may contact your state attorney general.
13. Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as long as needed for the purposes in this policy.
- Logs, profile and coach history are kept until you delete them or close your account.
- Original photos and audio captured for logging are processed and then handled according to your photo storage setting.
- Biometric capture data is deleted as described in Section 9.
- Transaction and billing records are kept as long as required by tax and accounting law.
- Records created by a nutrition professional may be subject to professional record retention requirements and may be kept for that period.
- De-identified and aggregated data may be kept indefinitely.
When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, except for what we must keep for legal, tax, security or fraud prevention reasons. Backups are purged on our regular backup cycle, which is no longer than 90 days.
14. Security
We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the data, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls limiting employee access to what their role requires, logging and monitoring, vendor security review, and periodic testing.
No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach of unsecured health data occurs, we will notify you and the Federal Trade Commission as required by the Health Breach Notification Rule, and we will notify state authorities where required.
15. Children
The Service is for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us information, contact hi@stride.life and we will delete it and close the account.
16. Cookies and tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, secure the Service, and understand aggregate usage. We do not use advertising cookies or third party advertising pixels within the authenticated app.
You can control cookies through your browser. Blocking some cookies may break parts of the Service. Where required, we honor Global Privacy Control and similar browser opt-out signals.
17. Location of processing
Stride is offered in the United States and your information is stored and processed in the United States. Some service providers may process limited data elsewhere under contractual protections.
18. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If a change is material, we will notify you in the Service or by email before it takes effect, and where the law requires consent for the new use, we will ask for it. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version, and we keep prior versions available on request.
